Promoting Inclusive Education for Visually Impaired Children in Yemen

Children with visual impairments in Yemen face immense challenges in accessing education due to the collapse of the national education system, the shortage of qualified teachers, and the lack of suitable learning materials. As a result, more than 870,000 children with disabilities are deprived of their right to learn and participate in society.

In Marib Governorate, where there are no specialized educational institutions, the Ain Saba School for the Blind stands out as a pioneering initiative — supported by the International Relief and Development Authority – Ansar Yemen — to provide inclusive education and comprehensive academic and social support for visually impaired children.

The project aims to operate the school for nine months by hiring qualified staff, supplying Braille-based educational materials and sensory and audio learning tools, and improving the school’s infrastructure to create a safe and accessible learning environment.

This initiative represents a vital step toward strengthening inclusive education and empowering children with visual impairments to gain equal opportunities in learning and in life.
